Personalised Listings After an inaugural season with no detailed description sponsorship, the Premier League was sponsored by Carling from 1993 until 2001, during which time it was known as the FA Carling Premiership. In 2001, a new sponsorship deal with Barclaycard saw the league rebranded the FA Barclaycard Premiership, which was changed to the FA Barclays Premiership in time for the 2004–05 season. No more games to show. In 2012, the Premier League celebrated its second decade by holding the 20 Seasons Awards: Arsenal got the season started on Friday, beating Crystal Palace on the road and confirming the positive form shown during the preseason. A day later the Gunners were joined at the top of the table by rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Southampton handily 4-1. Man City is looking to remind the field of their dominance, and Pep Guardiola’s side could do just that to the injury-ridden Spurs when they host Tottenham. The last time the pair met at the Etihad, the Citizens went down early, but they cooked in the second half to win 4-2. Consider this the marquee matchup of the weekend.
